Abstract: Autograph diary, in ink, written by Fred Shelton of Company C 4th New York heavy Artillery, his journal as a prisoner of war Salisbury prison, NC in the year 1864. "The Capital and Jeff's private residence loom above us on high ground across the river and that dirty rag of theirs unfolding daily floats over us poor captives as if it were animate and gloating in our captivity."
