Abstract: One letter (October 11, 1863; 3 pages), written by Sergeant Zachariah Bailey of the 14th Texas Cavalry, Company D. Bailey writes to his cousin Callie about the battle of Chickamauga, which his regiment had fought in a few weeks earlier. "The yankees fought with desperation but we certainly gave them a very decent whipping. Our loss was very heavy but theres was certainly greater, the loss in our Regiment was severe. We went into the fight with one hundred and ninety six men. When we came out of the fight Sunday evening we had only seventy six men left in our Regt but a good many have returned to their command."
