Roy Andersen (b. 1930) began his career as a professional illustrator. For more than 35 years Andersen's paintings appeared on the covers of Sports Illustrated and Time. Seven of Andersen's paintings hang in the permanent collection of the . In 1982, Andersen left the world of commercial and illustration art to focus on the American West. Andersen was admitted to the in 1989. At the 1990 Annual CAA exhibition, Andersen's We Hunt Them won the coveted Gold Medal for Oil award. He received the Silver Medal for Oil for his piece The Silent Blanket in 1991. Since that time he has won numerous competitions and is one of the more highly sought after and collected artists. He and his wife Lui live on a horse ranch in Cave Creek, Arizona, where they raise registered Paint horses.
