George Arthur Carlson

Born in Elmhurst, Illinois in 1940, George Carlson began drawing seriously at the age of seven. He studied at the , the and the . Carlson is a sculptor and painter primarily of Tarahumara Indians. He is interested in depicting Native Americans' harmony with nature, rather than portraying them in stereotypical savagery. He has also done celebrity portrait busts including Bill Cosby and Paul Robeson.

Represented by galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico, he is a member of the National Academy of Western Art.
