Robert "Shoofly" Shufelt
Known for pencil drawings of western scenes, Robert "Shoofly" Shufelt avoids too much detail believing that the important part is the structure underneath.
Born in Illinois, he was early inspired by his high-school teacher De Witt Whistler. He earned a degree from the and worked for twenty years as an illustrator in Chicago, doing advertising and television story boards.
In 1976, living in Arizona, he took up cowboy activities and decided that was the subject matter for his fine art. He works from color slides and works to achieve a spontaneous effect with his graphite paintings.
